Business Development Director

We are looking for a self-motivated individual that can thrive in a fast-paced environment to help continue Heartland Dental’s growth. The Business Development Director will lead and manage the aggressive inorganic growth activities in a specific region for the largest dental support organization in the country. Heartland is backed by KKR and is well capitalized in order to continue its rapid growth. Our network has evolved to include over 2,700 doctors in over 1,700 locations across 38 states. We are looking for professional, motivated individuals who have a history of leading potential acquisitions from lead generation through closing.

Help Heartland Dental grow by attracting and affiliating with successful dental practices, owners, and their teams. The Business Development Director will be responsible for building relationships with doctors and owners that are identified as likely potential acquisitions. This individual will be focused on origination and deal sourcing initiatives for Heartland through outbound calls, in-person meetings, conferences, and other marketing efforts in order to expand Heartland’s deal flow. In addition to partnering with doctors this individual will also work closely with our world class support team to ensure a successful long-term partnership between the doctor and support teams through a closing.

Dental practice acquisitions are at the core of Heartland’s growth strategy and have been the foundation upon which Heartland has achieved its success over more than 25 years.  By affiliating with the nation’s highest quality dental practices, Heartland grows its mission to support dentists and their teams while gaining valuable clinical expertise from Doctors and Hygienists to help support and mentor others across its community.

Below is an overview of the duties and responsibilities associated with this position:

  • Oversee all aspects of the M&A process, with a focus on sourcing new potential acquisition leads
  • Continuously cultivate and maintain positive relationships with doctors and other sources for lead generation and potential acquisitions
  • Assist internal teams throughout entire deal process, including working closely with due diligence team
  • Facilitate efficient deal closing and coordinate with operations and integration teams for smooth practice transitions
  • Work strategically to find opportunities to help our company grow, while also continuously improving the role to enhance performance across the team
  • Ability to identify and qualify the key aspects of a potential acquisition, understanding key attributes for success
  • Deliver and maintain a high volume of interactions with owners, advisors and other third parties, virtually and in person
  • Stay in frequent contact with existing and past owners to uncover opportunities
  • Maintains prospect information/tracking data and provides input to other company pipeline systems
  • Help develop targeted approach to new and existing markets in which we have a presence to drive growth

 

Current Regions: While we are actively looking for individuals in the below regions, we are open to candidates relocating or willing to travel to these regions:

  • Midwest: OH, IL, KY, TN
  • Texas (major city)
  • Mid-Atlantic: PA, MD, DE, NJ, DC, VA
  • Northeast: MA, CT, RI
Minimum Requirements:
  • At least five years of sales, consulting or M&A experience either in the dental industry or similar healthcare services industry
  • Ability to cold-call and to answer telephone calls and communicate information to callers
  • Advanced communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Ability and flexibility to travel at least 70%
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Support the negotiations and deal points
  • Self-motivated and driven to achieve goals
  • Pipeline builder - driver - enforcer and ability to respectfully challenge the team
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Dental practice acquisition experience or experience working with dentist or doctor owners through ownership transitions 
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Word, Outlook Excel, PowerPoint and CRM
  • MBA preferred
