What age should a tongue or lip tie be treated?

The easiest time to remove a lip or tongue tie is when a child is 12 months or younger. In infants, there are fewer nerve endings, so the procedure isn't painful and doesn't require anesthesia or sedation. Tongue and lip ties can still be removed when a child gets older, but it may require anesthesia or sedation, and recovery may take longer.
